Hera is ESA’s contribution to the Asteroid Impact and Deflection Assessment (AIDA) international cooperation with NASA, targeting the deflection validation of a hazardous near-Earth asteroid. It is the planetary defence cornerstone mission, element of ESA Space Safety proposal to Space19+.

Hera will also be the first in-depth investigation of a binary asteroid (65803 Didymos) and will perform  relevant measurements for the preparation of asteroid resources utilisation.

The Hera spacecraft is designed as a small low-cost platform providing a balanced risk/innovation approach to testing cubesats in deep-space as well as advanced GNC and associated technologies for close-proximity operations.

The Industry Day is an opportunity for European industries to discuss interests and potential contributions to the mission in view of the preparation of the B2CD phase in 2019.
