SpaceWire Backplane activity 50mSEA is under contract to ESA to develop a SpaceWire Backplane specification and to specify a suitable backplane connector. Smiths Connectors (Hypertac) are currently developing a prototype connector that meets the specification. As part of the contract SEA is developing a preliminary draft of a "SpaceWire Backplane" standard that will be available for review by the SpW WG. The proposed presentation is to walk through the specification, describe the design rationale behind it, and invite feedback from the working group.Speaker: Mr Alan Senior (Systems Engineering & Assessment Ltd (SEA))

"Network Discovery Protocols" Final presentation 50mThe SpaceWire standard defines the aspects of a highly flexible and capable communication system; however, SpaceWire does not offer a standard mechanism for discovering the topology of a network or what SpW Devices (switches or nodes) are attached to it. Nor does it offer a standard mechanism for configuring the various aspects of a SpaceWire network, such as links and switches. SpaceWire also lacks standard features to assist detection or configuration in the service domain. This lack of standardisation for simple tasks that are required on almost all SpaceWire networks limits the level of interoperability which may exist between devices and software, and the extent to which both hardware and software can be re ‐ used between different applications. The main objective of the Network Discovery Protocols activity was to develop and partially demonstrate a protocol to permit SpaceWire network discovery and management in a standard and interoperable manner, offering ‘plug‐and‐play’ features for SpaceWire – the SpaceWire Network Discovery and Configuration Protocol (SpW‐NDCP).Speaker: Mr Alun Taylor (SCISYS)

Contactless connector using electromagnetic coupling 30mConventional connectors have difficulty with band widening, downsizing and lightening. A contactless connector using electromagnetic coupling enables high speed (~50x) low energy (~1/500x) data communications, and reduced weight and farm factor. Furthermore, it has advantages in mechanical/electrical/chemical immunity, and dc power isolation. In this presentation, the contactless connector using transmission line coupler will be presented from its theory to applications including a satellite processor system.Speaker: Prof. Tadahiro Kuroda

XML representation of the SpW network: JAXA R&D examples 15mAn example of XML representations of constituents of the SpaceWire network, i.e. node, link, and routing switch, is presented. In addition to the static description of a network, the XML format was also used to define data traffic in the network and its time-slot allocation for deterministic network operation; each packet transfer is described by combination a data transfer path, amount of data, and timing definition. The format was defined and implemented in the SpaceWire R&D activities done by JAXA and Nagoya University in 2012-2013, and a prototype of SpaceWire/RMAP middleware was developed and tested to support the XML network description and time-slot-triggered data transfer based on the data traffic definition XML file.Speaker: Dr Takayuki Yuasa (JAXA)

Next Generation Space Interconnect Standard (NGSIS) SpaceVPX and Serial RapidIO 30mThe Next Generation Space Interconnect Standard (NGSIS) effort is a Government-Industry collaboration effort to define a set of standards for interconnects between space system components with the goal of cost effectively removing bandwidth as a constraint for future space systems. The NGSIS team has selected the ANSI/VITA 65 OpenVPX standard family for the physical baseline and is extending it for space applications. The Serial RapidIO protocol has been selected as the basis for the digital data transport and enhanced features are being defined for space applications. The NGSIS standards are developed to provide sufficient flexibility to enable users to implement a variety of system configurations, while meeting goals for interoperability and robustness for space. The NGSIS approach and effort represents a radical departure from past approaches to achieve a Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA) for space systems and could possibly serve as an exemplar for the Reinventing Space community as an alternate business model for future space systems developments.Speaker: Mr Charles Collier (AFRL)

Implementation of a SpaceFibre CODEC compliant with the standard draft F3 30mThe current SpaceFibre draft standard F3 is the result of many iterations, reviews and prototyping. Despite the different revisions, there are not many independent implementations to prove that the current standard version is correctly and easily implementable. In this activity, the SpaceFibre draft standard F3 has been taken as the only input for the implementation of a SpaceFibre CODEC. This allows providing genuine feedback on the current specification and to effectively prove its implementability. In this presentation, the current status of the SpaceFibre activity will be presented together with the main findings and feedback on the current SpaceFibre draft standard F3. Implementation of a demonstrator using a Xilinx-based platform will be possibly shown.Speaker: Mr Daniele Davalle (University of Pisa)

Some SpaceFibre Protocol draft problems analysis 45mWe analyse the current SpaceFibre Protocol draft with experience of its implementation and estimation, some problems in it that require modifications: streaming data delivery without Retry in a SpaceFibre data link; taking into account data flow characteristics in frames retransmission; virtual channels reassignment at an established connection. SpaceFibre Protocol draft modifications are proposed.Speaker: Dr Elena Suvorova (SUAI)
