Description

Graphene is a promising material for X-ray- and specially for THz detection. Here we report the results on graphene X-ray detection based on absorbing substrate with graphene as the sensing element for the capacitive changes in the substrate due to X-ray absorption and in THz detection based on the overdamped plasma-waves in graphene field effect transistors. We also review the quality of the commercially available graphene purchased from different vendors at three continents.

Short Speaker Information

Dr. Andrey Timofeev received the M.Sc. degree in
physics from Moscow State University, Moscow,
Russia, in 2004, and the D.Sc. (Tech.) degree in engineering
physics from the Helsinki University of Technology, Espoo, Finland, in 2009.
Since 2009, he has been a Research Scientist with VTT, Espoo, Finland.

His expertise includes superconducting THz detectors and cameras,
low temperature electronics, tunnel junction quantum devices
and silicon thermoelectric devices and IR bolometers. During his Academy of Finland’s Postdoctoral
Fellowship at VTT (2011–2013), he had developed kinetic inductance bolometer
technology and a sub-mm wave camera pathfinder based on a large focal plane array of bolometers.
His research activities at VTT also include THz graphene detectors, superconducting single-photon detectors integrated with silicon photonics, and sub-Kelvin Schottky junction silicon microcoolers.
