Description

The M-IND Initiative – Mid-Size Satellites INDustrialisation for LEO constellations, has as main objective to scale-up production capacity volume for mid-size LEO satellites and as a result reduce cost and lead-time to develop game changing LEO constellation missions.

This upcoming Workshop on 10th March, in hybrid format (at ESTEC preferably, also online) addresses mainly Rec. #3 and #4 below.

Two complementary surveys (split in 5 parts) have been prepared, for two profiles of Stakeholders.  The outcome of the Survey(s), and comparison between profiles, will be discussed in the Workshop:

23rd February 2026 at 10:00 AM CET:  DEADLINE TO FILL THE SURVEYS

(branching is used to skip questions not relevant to you and optimise your time--> for completeness, it will help if you answer all 5 sub-surveys)

Please REQUEST / CLICK HERE  the "D1 - Potential reduced interfaces for mid-size satellite", which provides "architectural" trade-offs, graphs, context and rationale related to the Survey questions.

D1 will only be provided to stakeholders from ESA-Member or Associate States.

Five M-IND strategic Recommendations were identified in 2025 after consultation from near 30 mid-size European satellite integrators:

Rec.#1: Industrialisation: Adoption and raise Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL).

Rec.#2: Industrial Policy: Enable redundant European supply for LEO subsystems & support batch procurement and commercialisation.

Rec.#3: Interface Reduction and Communalisation for mid-size satellite interfaces in order to facilitate interchangeability and interoperability of equipment and modules.

Rec.#4: Subsystem Adaptation & Europeanisation: Foster competitive, modular, sovereign European supply-chain solutions.

Rec.#5: Constellation Deployment and compliance with Space Debris Mitigation Policy.
