EcoDesign Industry Days 2026
Join us at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) in Madrid for the first edition of the EcoDesign Industry Days, following the successful pilot held in May.
The event is a two-day workshop bringing together space professionals, engineers, environmental specialists and industry representatives to advance the integration of ecodesign and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approaches in the space sector.
As space activities continue to grow, understanding and reducing their environmental impacts is becoming increasingly important. This workshop will provide participants with insights into ecodesign principles, environmental regulations, and practical approaches to applying LCA methodologies throughout the space system lifecycle.
The event will provide a platform to exchange knowledge, discuss ongoing ESA activities, and explore how sustainable design practices can become an integral part of future space missions.
No prior knowledge of environmental impact assessment is required. This introductory training will provide participants with the necessary foundations and an overview of the key concepts, methodologies, and tools used in the field.
The EcoDesign Industry Days will focus on:
Introduction to EcoDesign and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
Participants will be introduced to the principles of LCA and Ecodesign, including how these approaches can support sustainability considerations in the design and development of space systems.
Environmental policies and regulatory framework
The workshop will provide an overview of relevant European environmental policies and regulations for the space sector, including the ESA Ecodesign Policy.
Practical applications and examples
Participants will explore practical examples from ongoing ESA activities and discuss how Ecodesign methodologies can be implemented in real space projects.
Industry engagement and collaboration
The workshop will encourage interaction between ESA, industry and other stakeholders to support the adoption of sustainable design practices across the space sector.
Practical Information
Due to venue capacity constraints, attendance will be limited to 100 participants.
To ensure broad representation across organisations, registration will be limited to one participant per organisation. The first registered participant from each organisation will be confirmed, while additional registrations will be placed on a waiting list.
Participants are encouraged to attend both days of the workshop, as the sessions are designed to be complementary and build progressively throughout the event.
Participants are kindly requested to bring their own laptop, as the workshop will include interactive exercises designed to support practical engagement with the topics covered.
For both days, coffee breaks and finger-food lunches will be provided. On the second day a light breakfast will be provided too. As catering is arranged in advance, participants shall confirm their participation and inform the organisers as soon as possible if they are no longer able to attend, no later than registration deadline.
