SpaceWire-based Control System Architecture for the Lightweight Advanced Robotic Arm Demonstrator (LARAD) 30m
The Lightweight Advanced Robotic Arm Demonstrator (LARAD) is a state-of-the-art, two-meter long robotic arm for planetary surface exploration currently being developed by a UK consortium led by Airbus Defence and Space Limited under contract to the UK Space Agency (CREST-2 programme). This presentation will highlight some preliminary results of the ongoing study about the feasibility of the development and integration of a novel control system architecture for LARAD fully based on SpaceWire. The current control system architecture is based on the combination of two communication protocols, Ethernet and CAN. The new SpaceWire-based control system will allow for improved monitoring and telecommanding performance thanks to the higher communication data rate. In addition it enables the adoption of advanced control schemes potentially based on multiple vision sensors, and for the handling of sophisticated end-effectors that require fine control or high bandwidth data requirements such as science payloads or robotic hands.

Status of the "SpaceWire FDIR (N-MaSS)" ESA/TRP activity 30m
The ESA study project ‘Network Management Service Suite’ (N-MaSS) for Fault Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) focuses on implementation and standardisation of FDIR functions within the SpaceWire network management layer. The N-MaSS project started in 2012 and is carried out by an industrial consortium composed of Airbus Defence and Space Limited (project prime), 4Links Limited, Airbus DS GmbH and Teletel SA. The activity of the two latter partners was completed by 2013. This presentation describes the progress done over the last 12 months by Airbus Defence and Space Limited and 4Links Limited, who have been focusing on verification setup, breadboard (hardware and software) development, system verification and demonstration preparation. The verification setup is housed in a single 4U chassis and comprises all the essential elements of the system, including a redundant set of PCDUs, SMUs, PDHUs, Routing switches, and Nodes, all interconnected by SpaceWire. The full demonstration equipment will use two such 4U chassis, with additional nodes (including four nodes in a Teletel iSAFT rack-mount PC), routing switches, and cables. Software development of the FDIR Manager and the Network Configuration Tool is near to completion. The consortium plans to perform a final demonstration and complete the project within 2015.

Verification environment for a SpaceFibre CODEC compliant with the standard draft F3 20m
The University of Pisa has been collaborating with ESA for an independent development of a SpaceFibre CODEC IP, in order to review and consolidate the standard draft F3. A complete SpaceFibre CODEC IP was implemented, verified and its interoperability has been tested with a hardware demonstrator. In this presentation, the current status of the SpaceFibre activity carried out by the University of Pisa will be reported, with a particular focus on the verification approach adopted and the main results on this topic.

        Eye diagram measurements 50m
Eye diagrams have been discussed in previous SpaceWire WG meetings and in the frame of the revision process of the ECSS-E-ST-50-12C as possible requirements for the validation of SpW implementations. Examples of Eye diagram measurements performed on two different test set-ups (one using a GR712 development board from Cobham Gaisler AB and one based on Protocol Validation System of Teletel SA) will be presented and some related issues ( oscilloscope and probe bandwidth, definition of “clock” for eye diagram on SpW, eye masks , testing of SpW at closed box….) reported. Ideas for the validation flow of the Physical layer of a generic SpW implementation will be presented

This presentation will define the accuracy of Time-Codes through a SpaceWire network comprising of a series of SpW 10x routers. The Time-Codes latency and jitter thorough the network will be characterised over a range of test situations. In addition to this the SpW 10x's latency and jitter performance will be directly compared to that of the GR718."
