Dear Colleague,

The Propulsion, Aerothermodynamics and Flight Vehicles Engineering Division, (TEC-MP) of ESTEC is pleased to invite you to participate in the:

Spacecraft In-Space Refilling Workshop

This event will take place at ESA-ESTEC, Noordwijk (NL) on the 31st March 2026.

Major goals

As part of the ESA  In orbit Servicing Assembly and Manufacturing (ISAM)  Working Group , the workshop is intended to bring component suppliers, large system suppliers and end users together. With this in mind, the following principal goals have been outlined:

  • Identify and consolidate, where possible, use cases for Spacecraft refilling, and determine any existing or missing technologies.

  • Share ESA technologies plans to accelerate European Spacecraft refilling missions and identify any gaps, missing elements, or required updates arising from the discussion with the European industry.

  • Initiate or identify overarching system requirements to enable generic product developments.

  • Contribute to the prioritisation of technology developments required to achieve Spacecraft refilling within the timelines associated with the defined use cases.

Discussion focus areas

Based on the primary objectives, the workshop will focus on:

  • Assessing existing technologies, the required technological-related initiatives, and opportunities to accelerate their implementation.

  • Identifying market needs and associated use cases, including any gaps or necessary developments required to meet the use cases and their respective timelines.

Expected contributions

To achieve the goals identified for the workshop, ESA would appreciate if the following contributions could be provided by the participants:

  • The technologies being developed, along with their key intended specifications.

  • Associated requirements for those developments (e.g., funding, system-level requirements) necessary to meet the already identified need dates.

  • Use cases and associated key requirements from the end users and/or large system suppliers.

  • Identified gaps and needs, including, where possible, an estimated need date.

These contributions can either be presented during the workshop or shared confidentially with ESA to support a review of the technology needs or technological initiatives required to achieve S/C refilling. The inputs will also help to identify a realistic timeline for the first missions or potential demonstration missions.

Please note that registrations (REGISTRATION section) will remain open until the 15th March at 11:59 PM (CET) due to the limited number of seats available.

The workshop is open to industries (suppliers and users), investors (public and private), research institutes/centres and National Agencies from ESA member states and cooperating states. Please note that only corporate email addresses and phone numbers originating from ESA Member or Associate States are accepted.
