Description

The Lunar Gateway is under development with major contributions by ESA and European companies, Thales Alenia Space in particular. It is the first space installation that will deploy a new federated and modular approach to avionics and data-handling based on the International Avionics System Interoperability Standards (IASIS).

Thales Alenia Space and partners will build and integrate the avionics of the International Habitat which will be added to the Gateway from 2024 onward. Building blocks for this safety-critical system are currently being developed and qualified in an ESA GSTP activity by TTTech and RUAG Space (switch and network interface card).

In this presentation we explain the overall architecture, explore how the elements being developed in Europe will be combined with elements coming from the US or Japan to build for the first time real distributed integrated modular avionics (DIMA) in space, also the current qualification status will be briefly described.
