Description

The introduction of ML-based technology on-board the spacecraft is expected to significantly increase early anomaly detection and prediction capabilities by providing benefits to FDIR functions and on board autonomy, as well as enabling a new concept of space segment operations, bringing great benefits to the overall mission space efficiency, especially in scenarios with very large fleets of satellites. In this process, the analysis of the user needs, the definition of the prerequisites and the design drivers related to the FDIR strategy and the Operations that leverage the on-board ML-based models are a key point, taking into account the new design and constraints of space-qualified hardware components. Indeed, the implementation constraints imposed by low resources space qualified devices such as the OBC based on Leon4 processor will require to adaptations to lower memory usage and processing resources need.
