Description

The Advanced Payload Processors (APPs) was developed targeting in-orbit demonstration (IOD) in the GOMX-5 mission. GOMX-5 is a flight demonstration for next generation cubesat missions, which will demand advanced attitude control, large processing capabilities, and high throughput data exchange between space and ground segments. APPs was jointly conceived by Cobham Gaisler, GMV, CBK, and UFSC in order to demonstrate multiple processing technologies developed within ESA activities. APPs is a 1U size payload with five stacked boards: two GNSS boards from GMV/CBK, to process GNSS signals providing on-board PVT solution and to transfer raw samples to BRAVE and GR7XX boards; BRAVE board from UFSC using Nanoxplore's NG-Large FPGA for space radiation experiments and in-orbit FPGA reconfiguration; and two high performance and fault tolerant microprocessor boards from Cobham Gaisler, using the GR740 and GR716 LEON SPARC V8 processors. The combination of processors and reconfigurable logic in APPs allows for multiple IOD experiments
