Description

Join us for the 2nd instalment of IoT4EO Workshops, a forward-looking assembly set to convene at ESA-ESTEC in Newton 2 on 2-3 December 2024.  The workshop will have a similar format (2 half-days, a social event in the evening, and a hybrid "in-person/online" format) as the 1st instalment in February 2023. The workshop will be divided into two parts:

  1. The first half will focus on potential users
  2. The second half will focus on potential service providers & industry

This workshop is a collaborative effort between the European Space Agency (ESA) and other Space Agencies via IOAG, alongside significant industrial contributions from Airbus Defence & Space and OHB System. Its aim is to showcase the results and create a forum for consolidating a standardisation roadmap that was identified through ESA System Studies for integrating LPWAN/IoT technologies with Earth Observation (EO) satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), focusing on low power and low-data-rate connectivity

The key objectives of the workshop are:

  • To showcase results that were identified through ESA System Studies for integrating LPWAN/IoT Technologies with Earth Observation (EO) satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) for low-data-rate connectivity.
  • To discuss the results of the IoT4EO User and Provider surveys and review the feedback ESA received on the IoT4EO Service Definitions and Preliminary Specification, which outlines three core services:
    • Service A-1: Direct bidirectional low-data-rate TT&C
    • Service A-2: Indirect bidirectional low-data-rate TT&C
    • Service B: Direct bidirectional low-data-rate data collection from in-situ sensors
  • To encourage the formation of partnerships, collaborations and multidisciplinary dialogue between space agencies, technology providers, and end-user communities to advance the IoT4EO Ecosystem.
  • To present and consolidate the standardization roadmap for interoperability, ensuring seamless global adoption and integration, while also exploring and prioritizing the research and development of prototypes, testbeds, and ultimately IoD/IoV that will drive the next generation of IoT4EO solutions and connectivity to LEO satellites

The European Space Agency (ESA) has prepared various inputs for this workshop, which we encourage all interested parties and participants to provide feedback prior to the event. The results of these inputs and feedback will serve as the basis for discussions and the development of a preliminary roadmap during the workshop.

Please reserve time in your calendar to complete survey – Expected time: 60+ minutes to complete

INPUTS AND REQUEST FOR FEEDBACK:

PLEASE NOTE that Microsoft Forms does NOT have a 'save progress & continue later' function. It is recommended that you either save a copy of the form data or submit the form before closing the browser. You will have access to edit your submission until the deadline (More information here)

In addition to completing the surveys, please use our ‘’IoT4EO Formal Feedback v1.0’’ template for more structured / tabular responses if relevant. Fill it out and send it to Steven George, and/or Josep Rosello by the same specified deadline. Rest assured, feedback will remain confidential among stakeholders and will only be used to revise the document.
