Description
Additive Manufacturing enables unprecedented control over geometry, material distribution and structural efficiency. Beyond lightweighting, these capabilities can be leveraged to design spacecraft components that safely and completely demise during atmospheric re-entry. CATEC proposes a Design-for-Demise approach combining DfAM methodologies, advanced metallic materials, lattice structures and high-fidelity characterization techniques to enhance end-of-life disposal performance while maintaining operational requirements in orbit. By embedding debris mitigation criteria at the design stage, additive manufacturing can become a key enabler of the Zero Debris vision, reducing the long-term environmental footprint of future space missions
